The de Chazals in South Africa, the 2012 de Chazal Reunion

South Africa is a magnificent country. Vast expanses of country to take one’s breath way and an extraordinary Fauna. One understands why, some generations ago, members of our Mauritian Family were attracted by this country and went to establish themselves there,

The warmth of welcome given us by our South African cousins was only rivaled by the enthusiastic reception extended to us by our cousins in Argentina and Bolivia. We were touched, and thank the Duponsel family in Johannesburg, the de Chazals in Durban, and the Rouillards at Pongola, who entertained us. Anny and I have been delighted to meet this branch of our Family which left us such a long time ago, and above all to have lived, just a little, in their surroundings.

de Chazal Reunion –proposed for the beginning of May 2012

The initiative for this reunion in South Africa comes from Richard Dold, son of Virginia Taylor who wrote “THE TWO FAMILIES OF ILE DE FRANCE: a story of the Rouillards and de Chazals”.

Richard suggests a period in Pongola at the Rouillards who would organize different events in their town and the surroundings:

A stay in a natural park setting which they own and manage, situated on the borders of the third largest lake in south Africa. www.harloosafaris.co.za , a luncheon at a fruit-farm where citrus is grown for export throughout the world, a reception in an exotic fairytale garden of two hectares etc…..

Richard suggests a day's excursion from Pongola to Ithala Game reserve http://www.nature-reserve.co.za/ithala-nature-preserve.html, and  a visit to Dundee, Pietermaritzburg and the Battlefields.

On the way to Durban we would stop off at a game reserve http://www.game-reserve.com/south-africa_hluhluwe-umfolozi.ht
ml
where, with a bit of luck, we will see the “BIG FIVE”; lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros.

Then travel to Durban, that city by the sea, where the large majority of de Chazal descendents will be found. They also propose several events:

An Indian meal of quality, highly spiced or mild, at an excellent hotel on the sea  shore www.oysterboxhotel.com/ , an evening in a Military Mess etc….

It is anticipated that this reunion would be for just a week and would be designed to be very reasonably priced.

This is only a first stab at a program and you are invited send in your suggestions.

The suggested places and different stages have been chosen due to the number of de Chazal descendants there; and also because of the many touristic possibilities offered by the region. Each participant, following their own adventurous spirit may add on other itineraries to this week, such as: The Cape Peninsular and Cape Town; Kruger National Park; Johannesburg, the Capital, host to the last football world cup etc

VERY IMPORTANT

So as to progress the organization of this reunion, it is most important to have an idea of the number of possible participants---some places which could be booked in advance only have limited space---that is why we ask you to say, even at this early stage.

Please fill out the form at the top of the page to let us know your plans.

With best wishes,

Anny and Jean-Pierre de Chazal
